Estimates only. Actual revenue depends on watch time, ad fill rate, sponsor deals, and seasonal demand. Numbers are calibrated against publicly reported creator surveys and Social Blade aggregates.

How YouTube revenue actually works

Three numbers do most of the work.

Niche CPM (what advertisers pay in your topic), audience country mix (US/UK/CA viewers earn 5–8x more than emerging-market viewers), and watch-through (long-form videos with mid-rolls earn more than short videos with one pre-roll). This calculator combines all three into a realistic range. It won't tell you what last month's bank deposit looked like, but it'll tell you the order of magnitude to plan against.

Where it fits

Better thumbnails → more views → tighter feedback on earnings.

The single biggest lever a creator has over revenue isn't CPM — it's view count. A weak thumbnail can cost you 50%+ of the views you would otherwise have earned. That's why SRGE focuses on the score-and-fix loop: every percentage point of click-through compounds into the revenue numbers you just calculated here.

FAQ

Common questions

How accurate are these estimates?

They’re an informed range, not a guarantee. Real earnings depend on watch-through, ad fill rate, the share of Premium viewers, mid-roll placement, and seasonality. Use the output as a planning number, not a paycheck.

What’s the difference between CPM and RPM?

CPM is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions. RPM is what you actually keep per 1,000 video views after YouTube’s revenue share and the gap between views and ad impressions. As a rule of thumb, RPM ≈ 55% of CPM.

Why is Shorts revenue lower per view than long-form?

Shorts use a creator pool model — Google pools ad revenue across all Shorts viewers and pays creators based on share of total Shorts views, not direct ad attribution. That model pays meaningfully less per view than long-form mid-roll ads.

Why do CPMs vary so much by country?

Advertiser demand. A US viewer is worth ~5–8x a viewer in a low-CPM country because US advertisers bid more aggressively. Creator income shifts dramatically based on where their audience actually watches from, not where the creator lives.
